Water is the basis of all life and a hugely important factor for socio-economic and cultural development. In other words, water and sustainable development are inextricably linked. Not only is pioneering technology needed to be able to overcome the challenges resulting from this but also people with the relevant expertise. We are helping out here by funding various professorships and supporting institutes – for example at the universities of Rostock, Cottbus and Bremerhaven. And, as sustainability know-how is at its most valuable when it is put to use in as many countries around the world as possible, our commitment goes beyond the German borders and German universities. We are, for example, supporting the Clean India project providing training in waterworks and sewage treatment plants. To learn more about this, go to the section on Wasser supply
REMONDIS' subsidiary, EURAWASSER Nord, has been collaborating with the University of Rostock since 1994. The focus of their cooperation here is on research work and promoting young talent in the water sector. The courses at the university not only provide the students with a sophisticated understanding of the sector but also enable them to put what they have learned into practice. EURAWASSER has been supporting the university with an endowed professorship helping it to prepare environmental engineers for their future tasks.
More details about our collaboration with Rostock University can be found in the section on Research
We have been working together with the Technical University of Cottbus-Senftenberg in the German state of Brandenburg via our company WAL-Betriebsführungs GmbH (WAL) since 2006. This partnership is governed by a number of cooperation and framework agreements and includes, among other things, a corporate scholarship for supporting a select number of students. Moreover, WAL has been a member of the Friends' Association of the Brandenburg Technical University since 2008 in order to promote research activities.
In 2007, Bremerhavener Entsorgungsgesellschaft mbH (BEG), a REMONDIS Aqua subsidiary, financed an endowed professorship at the University of Bremerhaven as well as the Institute of Public Sector Economy and Public Private Partnerships linked to this professorship. Those studying at the Institute are taught all about planning and organising projects and the specifications of infrastructure projects as well as about the special features of municipal companies and structures. Moreover, the courses look at how to organise, calculate, finance and evaluate projects and companies.
The quality of an apprenticeship not only depends on the content of the material being taught but also on the general framework in which it is provided. We are, therefore, particularly proud of the fact that REMONDIS companies have received several prizes for their apprenticeship schemes. EURAWASSER Nord GmbH has been awarded the TOP Training Company Award by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Rostock eight times. Furthermore, the company has received awards for a wide number of its further training and trainee programmes.
Today's trainees are tomorrow's managers. Well aware of this fact, we decided many years ago to set up different national and international trainee programmes to offer young people some interesting career prospects in addition to our apprenticeship schemes. In 2012, we were presented with the certificate for “fair and career-oriented trainee programmes” by the ABSOLVENTA jobs fair and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in recognition of our programme. This certificate is only presented to companies that can prove that they adhere to a catalogue of strict criteria. This includes setting up a trainee programme that is fundamental to promoting talent and succession and that is geared towards working together with the participants on a long-term basis.
