Sustainability also needs to be planned and budgeted for. REMONDIS' principles are unambiguous here: investing in company growth and in new technologies are more important than distributing profits among the shareholders. As a result, over 90% of the profits made remain in the company. This also means that we have the resilience to deal with the vagaries of the capital and raw materials markets. This is particularly important as far as the latter is concerned. If supplies of raw materials are in danger of getting too low, then our independence allows us to counteract this situation by investing in recycling technology.
REMONDIS stands out thanks to its high levels of equity capital and its secure financial base
Despite the size of our global network and the size of our workforce (over 30,000 employees), we continue to be what we have always been: a family-run company. We place huge importance on values such as guaranteeing transparency, treating each other fairly and conducting our business with a great sense of responsibility and in line with strict moral and ethical principles. One such principle is that we never speculate on the prices of raw materials – nor do we ever participate in fields of business that involve risks or short-term gains for our company.
Speculating on the prices of raw materials is absolutely taboo
All of the processes used within our company have been optimised to make them as environmentally sound and sustainable as possible. This includes, for example:
All the details about REMONDIS' energy-saving infrastructure can be found in the section on Architecture
All lighting systems at the company’s plants in Cologne and Lünen have been switched to low-energy LED technology – just one of the many ways energy consumption has been reduced
The technology used at our plants and facilities around the world is constantly being updated and modernised – not only to make them even more energy efficient and environmentally friendly but also to further improve levels of safety and productivity. One example is the company's plan to build a state-of-the-art biogas plant at the Lippe Plant, which will mean that carbon emissions will be cut by a further 5,000 tonnes. Another example is the energy management system that was recently implemented at the Lippe Plant and at REMONDIS Electrorecycling. This system stands out thanks to its complex monitoring procedures which allow the daily energy consumption levels of all machinery to be documented and evaluated. The findings have already led to a number of adjustments being made (such as switching over completely to LED lighting), enabling the dismantling centre in Lünen to reduce its electricity consumption levels by 380,000 kWh and its carbon emissions by 280t every year. Having started with this new energy management system, REMONDIS' "energy transition" will gradually be extended to include all its business locations. A new position has been created especially for this task: an energy adviser has been appointed to help and support our company units to implement these new measures.

If companies have direct access to environmentally friendly resources, then they should make the very most of them. Which is why our fleet of vehicles is run on biodiesel that we produce ourselves. This fuel is manufactured by ecoMotion – a firm owned by REMONDIS' sister company SARIA and the market leader for biodiesel produced from animal fats. By using this eco-friendly biodiesel in our 10,000 trucks and 5,000 company cars, we are able to lower our fleet's carbon emissions by approx. 83%. Moreover, the amount of fine particulate emitted by these vehicles is much lower than that emitted by vehicles run on conventional fuel.
5-1 for the environment: five vehicles from REMONDIS' fleet run on biodiesel emit less CO2 than one vehicle run on conventional fuel
Fairness and honesty are at the very core of REMONDIS’ corporate culture. Our employees always comply, therefore, with all legal requirements and ethical and moral principles – no matter which field of business or country they may be operating in. Our obligatory Corporate Compliance Guidelines form the basis of our code of conduct and explain in detail how and why legal and company regulations must be observed. In these guidelines, for example, REMONDIS underlines its absolute commitment to free markets and fair competition.
Our Code of Ethics and our Corporate Compliance Guidelines apply to all our branches no matter where in the world they are located
